ForestLearning takes kids on a tour of the forest landscapes of Australia, and the world!

ForestLearning is excited to introduce Forest Landscapes of Australia and the World – an engaging teaching resource designed to reshape geography education for Year 8 students.

Developed in partnership with the Geography Teachers Association Victoria (GTAV), this new education toolkit focuses on varied forest landscapes and landforms. It includes a teacher guide, student workbook, and supplementary learning aids including virtual reality (VR) forest expeditions, multimedia content and spatial data maps.

The eight-lesson teaching unit is aligned with the Australian Curriculum and enables educators to provide students with a distinctive and enriched learning experience.

Harnessing the potential of ForestLearning’s award-winning ForestVR™ technology, Forest Landscapes of Australia and the World seamlessly immerses students in diverse forest landscapes through captivating 360-degree video experiences and photographic expeditions.

The resource provides students with memorable opportunities to explore varied forest environments, enabling them to examine distinct forest characteristics, features and distributions, cultural and spiritual values, connection to climate, and strategies for sustainable management.

Beth Welden, ForestLearning Program Manager said the new resource integrates the cutting-edge ForestVR™ technology into Year 8 geography education, in an Australian first.

“Virtual fieldwork, although not intended as a full replacement for actual fieldwork, can provide an exciting opportunity for immersive learning experiences that might otherwise be inaccessible,” Welden said.

“We’re excited to add Forest Landscapes of Australia and the World to our ever-expanding list of educational materials that can be used with the support of ForestVR™.”

Forest Landscapes of Australia and the World can be found by clicking here.

ForestVR™ experiences and all accompanying teacher resources can be freely downloaded from forestlearning.edu.au, with the classroom ready ForestVR™ app available for IOS, Android and Oculus Go devices.

All 360-degree experiences and tours can be viewed using low-cost Google cardboard VR headsets or any classroom device with a web browser including tablets, laptops, and smart boards.

ForestLearning, an initiative of FWPA, acknowledges the funds provided by levy payers and the Australian Government that supported the development of these experiences.
