Mid-rise Advisory Program welcomes Jennifer Cunich

Former Australian Institute of Architects CEO Jennifer Cunich has taken up the role of Lead Program Development Manager, Mid-rise Construction, as part of FWPA’s WoodSolutions Mid-rise Advisory Program.

Now in its fourth year, the FWPA WoodSolutions Mid-rise Advisory Program has representatives in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, offering support and assistance to projects at a national level. It has steadily built on a base of completed projects, while developing many more still in the pipeline. The mid-rise team comprises specialists in timber – from design and engineering to costing. Members act as advisors and facilitators, helping project teams to optimise and realise the benefits of timber systems.

Jennifer has more than 25 years of experience in the property industry. She is currently a serving board member of the Victorian Planning Authority, and Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, and is also a committee member on Monash University’s Estates Committee.

“It’s an exciting time to be taking up the role of Lead Program Development Manager,” Cunich said.

“I feel this is a logical progression that builds on the knowledge and skills I’ve gained in previous roles.

“The benefits of timber in mid-rise projects are the perfect fit for a community wishing to increase the amenity of buildings while reducing environmental impacts, and nowhere is it more applicable than urban infill, affordable housing and aged care. These are some of the areas that have the potential to contribute real social and economic benefits.

“I’ve been most impressed by the enormous depth of experience and knowledge the mid-rise team and the WoodSolutions program have assembled. One of my first challenges is to share this with industry — both on the supply, and the design and build sides.”

The outgoing mid-rise manager, Gerry Neylan said he was delighted to hand over to someone of such impressive experience and enthusiasm.

“I’m sure Jennifer will grow the strengths of the program, while bringing a new perspective to add value for the participants and partners,” said Neylan, who will continue to be involved with the mid-rise program as chair and consultant.

“I would like to thank our industry program partners for their support as the mid-rise team continues to become the catalyst for accelerating the uptake of timber systems in the mid-rise sector,” said FWPA Managing Director, Ric Sinclair.

“If any industry members would like to discuss participation in the program, I would be delighted to talk to them.”
