New symposium to showcase latest Australian plant biosecurity research

The inaugural Plant Biosecurity Research Symposium (PBRI) will showcase current plant biosecurity research being conducted by a large range of research teams in Australia.

This two-day event, funded by RDCs including FWPA as a founding partner, will be held on 15 and 16 August at The Edge in Brisbane’s state library.

The program is set to highlight research on pests, diseases and weeds affecting plant production systems and surrounding environments.

Attendees will come from a range of sectors, including growers, industry representatives, researchers, students and biosecurity professionals. They will have the opportunity to hear insights from keynote speakers, presentations given by research teams and panel discussions with a focus on future priorities for research, development and extension (RD&E).

There will also be opportunities for networking in the plant biosecurity space, with the aim being cross-industry collaboration.

Thanks to a recent memorandum of understanding between PBRI and Better Biosecurity NZ, the event will also include presentations from New Zealand researchers looking at common biosecurity issues, with a view to inspiring collaboration with Australian researchers going forward.

The full program and more details are available on the PBRI website.
