October AGM, with new Non-Executive Directors to be appointed

Save the date! Yes, it’s almost that time of year again. FWPA is preparing for its Annual General Meeting, which will be held on Thursday 28 October.

You can register for the AGM here. Amongst other things, the AGM will provide an opportunity to officially appoint four new Non-Executive Directors to our skills-based Board.

A call for expressions of interest, inviting potential candidates to put themselves forward for these positions, was distributed in June to all FWPA member companies, and externally advertised with the Australian Institute of Company Directors and other appropriate bodies.

“FWPA has been delighted with the response and quality of those who have put themselves forward for consideration,” said FWPA Managing Director Ric Sinclair.

“Thank you to all who have raised their hands for these vital roles. Your commitment to the success of our industry is commendable.”

While the current Board is well balanced, there is particular interest in individuals with skills in the following areas:

  • research and development
  • downstream experience in the design and construction sector.

Expressions of interest closed on Friday 23 July, with the selection process being managed by an independent Director Selection Committee.

The successful Board members will have demonstrated strategic thinking and an understanding of financial statements at a Director level. Previous Board experience and/or Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICF) qualifications are also being looked upon favourably as the selection process continues.

Information about FWPA and the process for appointing Directors is set out in FWPA’s Constitution, and is available at www.fwpa.com.au

An update on our new five-year Strategic Plan

FWPA’s ‘clean-sheet’ review of its five-year Strategic Plan has continued to progress. This new plan will help guide the industry’s future priorities, while aligning with the organisation’s new statutory funding agreement with the Commonwealth Government.

Independent consultants have worked with the Board and an industry reference group comprising key stakeholders during the development stage, while conducting widespread stakeholder consultation, including an online survey.

The proposed plan will shortly be put to the Board for final approval, and is expected to have been completed and shared broadly with the industry and beyond before the end of the year.

“Thank you to everyone who has generously given their time and insights during this important collaborative effort. It has been encouraging to see so many industry stakeholders actively engaged in this process,” said Ric Sinclair, Managing Director at FWPA.

“Your involvement has been instrumental in helping us develop a Strategic Plan that will most effectively guide the future direction of FWPA, and ensure the ongoing success of our sector, both in the short- and long-term.”
