Vale: Denis Cullity AO CMG BSc FAIM FAICD

We pay our respects to Denis Cullity Sr, our founding Chair, who passed away on 5 September 2022.

Denis served as Chair of the Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Corporation, as we were then known, from 1994 to 2000.

An integral figure in the Australian timber industry, he contributed invaluable knowledge and experience to the industry. Denis’ illustrious career and significant contribution were recognised with an Order of Australia (AO) for his work with forestry and the broader community.

During his time as Founding Chair, alongside Kathryn Adams (the founding Executive Director), Denis established systems of industry engagement, governance and reporting for the company and subsequent boards.

Renowned as a true innovator and champion for industry-focussed research and development, a number of enterprises that he launched continue in some form today.

His impact in the industry is deeply felt and appreciated by those who knew him. “I was employed by Denis early in my career. All my knowledge of the wood panels sector came from learning from Denis and working in businesses he led,” said current Chair Craig Taylor.

On behalf of all past and present FWPRDC/FWPA Board and staff, we offer condolences to the Cullity family and Wesbeam staff.
