Every fortnight FWPA hosts an on-line webinar detailing the findings and outcomes of one of its recent research projects or topics of interest to industry. The research webinars are presented by at least one of the scientists who undertook the research and explain what was done and what it means for the wood products industry. Other technical presentations are delivered by industry professionals and inform on such practical topics as technical guides from the FWPA’s Wood Solutions website.
The webinars are presented live, usually from 11 to noon every second Wednesday. At the end of the live webinar audience members are encouraged to ask questions they have of the presenters.
For those who are unable to participate at the time the webinars are recorded and made freely available to view or download from the FWPA website as PowerPoint presentations.
This year (2014), between February and November, FWPA presented 22 separate webinars, ranging from ‘adaptation strategies to manage risk in Australia’s plantations’ to ‘new due diligence requirements for importers and processors with regard to Australia’s illegal logging laws’ and ‘fire safety and performance of wood in multi-residential and commercial buildings’.
Communicating the results and benefits of FWPA’s completed research and development projects and associated projects is an essential part of the organisation’s work. The inclusion of technical presentations from the Wood Solutions website further enhances the connection between research, industry and specifiers. All the research is intended to benefit those working and investing in the timber and wood products industry, whether they are growers, sawmillers, importers or manufacturers. The webinar series is a key element in communicating these benefits so as to help industry improve profitability, reduce risk and continue to have an important role in the Australian community.
