Wound dressing made from pine nanocellulose ‘1,000 times cheaper’ than alternatives

Francine Claro from Panama developed the dressing as part of her Master’s project, with the resultant membrane thought to be up to one thousand times cheaper than current alternatives. It has the added advantage of being made using a renewable material.

The development of the dressing was conducted at the Federal University of Paraná under a project titled Bionanocomposites – Obtaining nanostructures from forest sources.

The BRICS Young Innovator Prize recognises work considered to have made an outstanding contribution to the science and technology sector in BRICS countries.
