Project number: PNA384-1516
The aim of this project was to update the environmental Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data for Australian-produced wood products. The pre-existing data was last collected by CSIRO for the 2005-06 financial year. The updated forestry and manufacturing data now more accurately reflecting processing improvements and efficiencies across the industry and enable these Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to continue registration past late 2016.
The updated data can now be used by to quantify the benefits of using timber which has such a low carbon footprint compared to competing products types.
The data may also be used by participating timber companies to benchmark their environmental performance against the industry average as well as to produce company-specific EPDs. These can assist customers such as major developers to get even more recognition within Green Star for using environmentally friendly timber or help them achieve their lower carbon footprint corporate objectives.
Now six EPDs are available for Australian wood product types including:
- sawn softwood;
- sawn hardwood;
- particleboard;
- MDF;
- plywood; and
- glulam.
