Summary
The Gippsland Carbon Farming Guide 2022 was developed to help landowners understand their options under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative – Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022 (Plantation Methodology) and gain information on how to run carbon projects in Gippsland. It explained the methodology, its differences from other emission reduction approaches, and the benefits of participating in carbon projects.
The guide detailed project registration, schedules, and key considerations such as species selection, planning requirements, and reporting and auditing. It also presented three case studies that explored different approaches to management, species selection and collaboration, and outlined their Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) outcomes.
The guide offered practical recommendations such as aligning projects with farm objectives, seeking advice from experts and other landowners, and using careful planning to maximise returns, making it a valuable resource for landowners considering carbon farming.
