Summary
This report analysed the carbon sequestration potential of the Pinus radiata plantations in the Central West NSW region. Using the FullCAM accounting model, the report provided carbon accumulation profiles for three of the typical silviculture regimes, short rotations, long rotations with one thinning, and long rotations with two thinning events.
Heat maps were generated to showcase the carbon sequestration potential across the region under these different regimes. The hub region was divided into estimation points and productivity classes were assigned to each point to analyse carbon sequestration by productivity. This found a general positive association with productivity class and the resulting carbon estimate at the estimation points.
The report also generated carbon profiles for each productivity class for each silviculture regime. The outputs from the report will be used in the Landowner’s Assessment Tool prepared by the Central West NSW Forestry Hub which supports the education of landowners on the potential cash flows from a plantation forestry operation on their land.
