Summary
This project explored challenges in training delivery and skills development across Gippsland’s forestry and pulp and paper industries. It aimed to identify key barriers by engaging with industry stakeholders, reviewing available training options, and assessing the feasibility of establishing a dedicated training centre.
The findings highlighted limited training availability in the region, contributing to higher costs, reduced accessibility, and increased reliance on in-house training. Stakeholders emphasised the need for clearer information, a central point of contact, reduced training costs, and improved accessibility. Differences in perspectives between training providers and industry further highlighted the need for stronger coordination.
The project identified existing locations that could be used as a training facility and recommended developing a Gippsland Forestry Training Calendar and appointing an industry-based training coordinator to strengthen links between employers and providers. These initiatives were intended to improve connectivity and expand access to industry-relevant training.
