Project Details

Project Code:PRC631-2324
Project Start Date:10-Oct-23
Completion Date:29-Feb-24

The Australian forest industry can contribute to climate mitigation in a variety of ways. A number of those options for carbon abatement were discussed in a previous report commissioned by FWPA (Production Forest Methodologies for the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) – Ximenes and Smith 2019). The project investigated potential methods under the ERF for forest managers and wood processors in both native forest and plantation sectors. Following the project, the plantation forestry method was developed. Since then, this method has been the main pathway for forest industry participation in the national carbon market.

There are two key objectives for this project:

  1. To identify and document a set of proposed changes (if any) required to existing ERF methods and pathways for implementation;
  2. To propose a short-list of new potential methods assessed against key criteria and pathways for implementation.
