Project CodePNC661-2324
Project Start DateJune 2024
Completion DateJune 2027

A proof-of-concept project “NIF083-1819” has identified the parameter requirements for hazard monitoring in forestry operations against readily available sensor systems.

The previous project has successfully delivered an image-based detection algorithm that can accurately detect heavy equipment and workers (>90% accuracy) to alert potential collisions. Such an algorithm can be implemented in wearable safety devices, forklifts, and existing plant operation environments.

This project is designed to take research POC ideas to commercially implementable operations that require further considerations of the existing operation environment, various human factors, technology operations, and supportability, focusing on safety management in the processing environment (e.g. sawmills).
