Updated test methods or metal nailplates and brackets

Metal nailplates are extensively used in the manufacture of structural timber roof and floor trusses and metal brackets used in the construction of timber-framed buildings from residential homes through to large commercial buildings.

To enable for more efficient design, test methods have been updated to enable manufacturers, suppliers and engineers in the design and assessment of timber connections.

Scope & Application

This draft FWPA Standard, T02 Methods of test for mechanical fasteners and connectors Part 2: Category C & D Fasteners, has been developed by the Australian Engineered Fasteners and Anchors Council (AEFAC), with support from Forest & Wood Products Australia (FWPA). It forms Part 2 of the FWPA Standard series with FWPA Standard T01 Part 1 (Category A & B Fasteners) relevant to nails, staples, screws; and bolt and dowel type fasteners.

This Standard has been developed by researcher and technical experts for the testing and determination of characteristic capacities for commonly used timber connections incorporating Category C fasteners (metal connector plates/nailplates) and Category D fasteners (brackets); and applies to connections in sawn timber and specified engineered wood products.
