The Australian forest industry is committed to increasing workforce participation of women across the sector. To progress this goal, the Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) created a voluntary Australian Forest Industries Diversity and Inclusion Charter. This Charter sets out eight commitments aimed at improving the forest industry’s diversity and inclusion. More information on the Charter can be found at the https://ausfpa.com.au/australian-forest-industries-diversity-and-inclusion-charter/
The Charter requires participating organisations to report on progress through an annual survey. This survey is collected in collaboration between AFPA and FWPA, and the results for the second survey have now been released.
Participating companies have reported that the gender composition of the industry is now 21 per cent female, and 79 per cent male, which is a 1 per cent increase in female employees year on year.
The survey is annually completed by 21 participating companies across the forest growers and processors sector of which 95 per cent of companies have a gender diversity policy in place, an increase of almost 15 per cent in comparison to the previous year’s results.
This survey enables the industry to monitor the results of their positive efforts in the diversity and inclusion policy area, and with every year’s results we will have more data to draw on for analysis.
If your company wants to be included in future Gender and Diversity surveys, please contact Kevin Peachey, Manager Statistics and Economics, FWPA who will connect you with the relevant AFPA policy manager.
