With the exception of Norway, European pine sawlog prices fell for all major producer countries in the March quarter, compared with the prior year. The largest recorded fall was the 8.3% experienced for Swedish pine logs, the average price of which fell to USD51/m3 in the March quarter. The highest-priced logs remain from Estonia, where the average price was USD69/m3, down a more modest 4.3% compared with a year earlier

The strength of Estonian prices remains, with the average price 11.6% higher than the average USD61/m3 recorded for logs from Finland. Compared with a year earlier, they were down just 2.1%.
Norway’s pine log prices rose 4.6% over the same period, reaching USD53/m3, while prices for Lithuanian sawlogs were 6.5% lower at USD58/m3.
Of interest is that the prices of the Baltic region’s spruce sawlogs moved in an almost consistent fashion with the pine sawlog prices. This is displayed in the following chart.

Lower prices for the main logs coming out of Scandinavia should flow through to lower sawn timber prices. How that is played out for shipments to Australia is another question.
