Over the past month, the FWPA hosted a series of webinars to provide information on the recent turbulence in international timber markets, and how this has been impacting the Australian timber market.
This well attended webinar series brought together international and domestic industry experts who took a deep dive into recent domestic and international timber supply and demand trends. FWPA recorded most of these sessions, with a short summary of sessions and resources available below.
Key trends in European timber markets, with Kurt Schrammel
Kurt Schrammel, Managing Director of Vida Australia, presented:
· European, American, and global timber supply and demand analysis.
· Analysis on the currently high international freight challenges.
· Pricing of structural timber products from across the globe products in comparison to MGP 10.

Tim Woods, Managing Director of Industry Edge, presented:

Timber usage in residential construction, with Jim Houghton
Jim Houghton, Industry Consultant, FWPA, presented:
· Valuable analysis on timber usage in residential housing, based on an assessment of the bill of materials of model homes built by project home builders
· This is sorted into categories, including, 1 storey house, 2 storey house, floors and supporting structure, roof trusses, etc.

Perspectives and projections with Tim Reardon – Immediately followed by industry supply chain
Tim Reardon, Chief Economist at the HIA, presented:
· Analysis of national population and demographic changes
· Analysis of change in residential housing behaviours
· Latest housing data
· Market forecasts including the prediction of a “shadow of demand” from 2023.
This session was followed with an industry panel comprising representatives from businesses spanning the timber supply chain:
