Imports of Particleboard lifted 24.1% in 2021, to reach 97,912 m3 of the year. Despite being well below previous peaks, the orderly movement of imports appears to be more sustainable than in previous peak periods, with OSB imports performing particularly well.
OSB imports lifted 23.1% in 2021 to total 30,484 m3 as fabricators and builders alike found the volume was available and the price was right for a grade that had appeared to be falling from favour. A year or more on and there are few new builds that are not braced somewhere by OSB!
Here we can see total imports, by grade, of the Particleboard products. The green bars show OSB and the rust-coloured bars are raw particleboard (without a melamine or other surface finish).

Drilling further into the OSB supply, the chart here shows that two countries have ruled the market over the last five years: Germany and Romania.
Although the German supply lifted 47% in 2021 to 10,427 m3, the Romanian supply was able to add 28% and rose to 16,974 m3. The latter has never been at higher levels and appears to hold the strongest market prospects for a product and grade that continues to exhibit growth.
