WoodSolutions timber apartment building working group | invitation to members

FWPA’s WoodSolutions program is establishing a working group which seeks to increase the market share of timber in residential construction of 3-6 storey buildings.

An initial meeting will take place online at 10:00am – 11:30am Thursday 12 June.

Increasing societal demand for densification of housing in our larger cities is being encouraged by State and Federal government policies across Australia. The forest and wood products industry needs to ensure that timber is a key part of the solution alongside more traditional construction methods.

While the FWPA-supported Future Framing Initiative looks to expand markets and develop new standards to improve market access for timber construction for 1-3 storey buildings, continued effort is required to expand the horizons of timber-based construction solutions in buildings above 3 storeys.

WoodSolutions has commissioned a report to identify and address barriers to timber adoption in low- and mid-rise residential construction, mainly focusing on 3-6-storey apartment buildings, which is attached to this email. This report, authored by Andrew Dunn (TDA) and Professor Perry Forsythe (UTS), is based on a range of interviews with key members of the supply chain and provides a range of key findings and recommendations to increasing adoption of timber-based solutions. This workshop will launch report findings, as well as provide a chance to hear from a range of other experts.

FWPA is extending an invitation to all FWPA members with an interest in this initiative to join an initial meeting of the WoodSolutions Missing Middle Residential Working Group.
