Summary

This project aimed to develop a spatial database for the Central West NSW Forestry Hub to improve understanding of current and future fibre supply from the region’s plantation forests. Greenwood Strategy collected and verified data from forest and wood products companies, public sources, and primary research.

The database includes all plantations over five hectares in the Central West region, mapping a total of 89,757 hectares of softwood plantations. Most of this estate is publicly owned, with the remainder managed by private companies and smaller growers. The database is web-based, dynamic, and designed for easy updates as new information becomes available. It provides strategic insights into plantation location, age, ownership, and haulage routes, supporting industry planning and investment.

Limitations exist due to commercial sensitivities and data resolution, but the tool offers a comprehensive snapshot for stakeholders. Potential future applications include fire management, pest control, infrastructure planning, and enhanced stakeholder collaboration.
