Development of limit states design method for joints with dowel type fasteners. Part 1: Literature Review.
This project aimed to develop a limit states design procedure for timber joints under Australian conditions. It reviewed the current Australian practice, and the design codes in the USA, Canada and Europe, and identified the issues and parameters that need to be considered in an experimental program aimed at evaluating the use of the European Yield Model (EYM) for joints with dowel-type fasteners. The report also reviewed previous research investigating the use of EYM for nailed joints with Australian timbers.
This report also includes general recommendations for the experimental program proposed for the next phase of the project.
