Research & development (R&D) co-ordination & funding models in jurisdictions outside Australia for the forest & wood products sector

Go direct to:

This project investigated various forest and wood product R&D co-ordination and funding models used in USA, Canada, EU, Finland, Germany and China. Analysis was based on research reports, stakeholder interviews and consultation, website reviews and local opinions.

The research found that Australian industry consider adopting, or in some cases continuing, themes evident in Finland, Canada and the EU model. The main theme is that the industry must lead and financially support the technical development of the sector. Government needs to help with the appropriate support politically and financially.  Academia must be developed and supported by both industry and Government. Technical talent development, including developing the next industry leaders, through R&D departments and organisations needs to be a consideration.
