Industry Guidance and Tools for Timber Due Diligence

From 30th November 2014 importers of most timber and timber products into Australia, as well as domestic processors of raw logs, will be required to undertake a process of due diligence to minimise any risk they are importing or processing illegally logged timber. The requirements are contained in the Australian Illegal Logging Prohibition Regulation. This webinar will present an overview of the Australian Industry Timber Due Diligence (AITDD) guidance and tools, soon to be available from www.timberduediligence.com.au, which are designed to assist industry meet the requirements.

Presenter:

Stephen Mitchell joined TDA in 2006 and has conducted a number of projects on legal timber policy and procurement practices. He has also assisted importers and domestic processors in their input to the development of the Australian Illegal Logging Prohibition Act and Regulation. In 2013, with support of the Gottstein Trust, he undertook research in the United States and Europe into industry and other stakeholder due diligence in response to US Lacey Act amendments and European Union’s Timber Regulation which operate in a similar way to the Australian Illegal Logging Prohibition legislation.
