Presented by John Turner, Forsci, Wednesday 17 July 2013.
Dr John Turner worked with the then Forestry Commission of NSW (Forestry Corporation of NSW) for more than 30 years, initially as a forester, then Senior Research Scientist and for the last 10 years as Director of Research. He completed his Doctorate at the University of Washington and worked with the International Biological Program. Subsequent research has been wide-ranging and productive. John’s research interests are in forest soils, productivity, nutrition and nutrient cycling, and studies have been undertaken in a wide range of forest types.
Current research has been into plantation nutrition in relation to site specific management, changes between rotations and differences between species. John will being giving a webinar presentation on Inter-rotational Management and Productivity in Radiata Pine. The study analysed differences in productivity between rotations of a poor quality radiata pine stand growing on clay soils. Lidsdale State Forest was one of the first plantations established in NSW and there also were a number of research projects associated with the forest. The main project was the analysis of productivity over successive rotations and the identification of both causes and secondary impacts of change.
