The FWPA Standard G02 Recycled Timber – Visually Graded Decorative Products provides guidelines for visually grading recycled hardwood timber used in decorative applications. The Standard was created with input from industry associations, recycled timber stakeholders, researchers, and specifiers.  Recycled timber is timber that has been previously used and served its initial purpose. Recycled timber may be recovered for re-use either in its original cross-sectional size or re-manufactured to smaller dimensions.

The FWPA Standard has been taken through a formal public review process under the guidance of the FWPA Recycled Timber Standards Writing Committee. Key considerations for specifiers and purchasers include the variable nature of recycled timber, the importance of detailed discussions between buyers and suppliers, and the necessity of prior inspection of representative samples.

The grades under this standard are specific to recycled timber, and the FWPA Standard includes both mandatory and advisory guidelines for its application.
