Dominated by windows, doors and posts and beams (including LVL & I Beams), Australia’s imports of Builders’ Joinery continue to rise, valued at AUD473.6M for the year-ended June 2016. The rise of 20.0% from the previous year means by major grade, Builders’ Joinery is the largest value wood product import line.
As the chart below indicates, on a value basis, imports of Builders’ Joinery (shown in red) moved ahead of imports of Mouldings (shown in purple) over the year.

While this tells the total story and it underpins the importance of imported value-added Builders’ Joinery products to the Australian housing market, just as important is the types of products that have delivered the growth in the value of imports that is displayed in the following chart. As discussed at the outset, the main products are windows, doors and posts and beams. However, there has been plenty of growth over the last year, in the value of imports of other products.
