Attitudes to the use of Wood as a Structural Material in Non-residential Building Applications: Opportunities for Growth.
This project researched the overall confidence in using wood as a structural material in non-residential applications. To determine the key reasons driving specifier confidence, focus groups and interviews were held with 34 designers/specifiers.
Key findings were: a lack of available information and assistance with timber design; timber marketing that is targeted towards the residential sector and not segmented for specific building applications; lack of tertiary level training; lead times and cost; commercial risk; and the lack of connection detailing and timber fabricators to erect non-residential buildings.
