Design & Installation of Exterior Timber Wall Cladding

FWPA has developed a draft standard for the design and installation of exterior timber wall cladding in response to requests from industry and building professionals.

This proposed standard introduces a non-mandatory Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) solution for exterior timber wall cladding, offering an easier compliance path for weatherproofing, and condensation requirements. Learn more via this link.

Recycled Timber Standards

In March 2025 we announced the launch of FWPA Standard G02 – Recycled Timber: Visually Graded Decorative Products, the first national standard of its kind. This standard provides guidelines for visually grading recycled hardwood timber used in decorative applications, setting a critical framework for assessing and grading these materials.

Further strengthening this commitment, FWPA is also currently in the final stages of publishing FWPA Standard G01 for Recycled Structural Timber expanding the framework to support structural applications of recycled timber.

Timber committees

FWPA also actively participates in the development of Australian standards that directly impact on the use of timber products. Specifically, FWPA is represented on the following Timber Committees: TM-010 Timber Structures and Framing; TM-011 Engineered Timber Products; and TM-012 Timber Grading & Preservation.

Built Environment Committees

We also have representation on the following Built Environment Committees: BD-006 General Design Requirements and Loading on Structures;BD-011 Interior Board Linings; BD-043 Formwork; BD-058 Thermal Insulation; BD-074 Termites; BD-099 Wind Loads for Housing; BD-111 Prefabricated Building; FP-018 Fire Safety; FP-020 Construction In Bushfire Prone Areas; and SB-000 Sustainable Buildings.

FWPA Industry Standards Reference Panel

FWPA has recently established an industry Standards Reference Panel (SRP) that has been formed to assist with prioritisation, coordination, and development of industry product standards. The SRP consists of members intimately involved with and from various sectors of the timber industry including academia, state industry associations, engineered wood products manufacturers, softwood and hardwood structural producers, softwood treaters, frame & truss manufacturers, LVL & I-joists manufacturers, and timber importers.

The inaugural members of the SRP:

  • Prof. Keith Crews (Chair: Advanced Timber Hub, University of Queensland – Academia)
  • Andrew Dunn (TDA-NSW – Industry Associations)
  • Craig Kay (Tilling Timber – Importers)
  • Gavin Matthew (EWPAA – Panels)
  • Tom Rickerby (Wesbeam – LVL, I-joists)
  • Peter Robson (Pentarch – Hardwood)
  • Tim Rossiter (MiTek – Frame & Truss, product users)
  • Dave Belfield (Wespine – Softwood, treated products)
