Alastair will be presenting on ‘Prefabricated Timber Ground Floor Systems’ (PNA244-1112). The initiative delivers what the builder wants – one contract, to deliver a working platform, on a site, on a specific date, for a specific cost’. Australia’s Frame & Truss manufacturing sector is well placed to meet this new market offering through delivery of a new ‘supply, fabricate and install’ prefabricated ground floor systems approach. The project has developed practical options for easy-to-install prefabricated lightweight timber ground floor systems that include both the prefabricated timber floor panels and the floor support to footings. These new systems provide a highly effective and economic form of ground floor construction, particularly on sloping sites, highly reactive clay soils and in flood inundation areas. Prefabricated timber ground floors represents a significant opportunity to grow volumes of timber used in residential and light commercial construction through a new product and delivery model that meets market needs.
